Diamonds 101. The Cutting Edge on the Round Cut Engagement Ring
Far and away, the most popular diamond cut for engagement rings is the round brilliant. Though it is the most-purchased shape, and simple in its design, an engagement ring that features the round cut diamond is far from ordinary. This diamond outshines other diamond cuts and each round brilliant is truly unique. Because of the widespread appeal of round cut diamonds, you will have no trouble finding one that fits your taste and budget preferences. The round cut also pairs well with a broad variety of settings as you can see in the two rings pictured here.
Diamond cutters, using advanced mathematical calculations, shape the round brilliant in order to achieve the highest level of shine and radiance that the diamond can offer. When couples are choosing an engagement ring, they are often drawn to carat weight. Carat weight is important, but when choosing a round brilliant, you also want to pay attention to the color grading. The diamond’s color, or lack of it, will affect the measure of light that can pass through it. The more colorless the diamond, the more light can pass through, and the higher the value of the stone. A smaller diamond with a better color grading may be much more valuable than a larger stone with a poor color grading. Color is graded by letter: D,E,F diamonds are completely colorless. G, H, I are nearly colorless. Both of the diamonds featured here are color graded G-H.
The 0.95 Carat Diamond Swirl Engagement Set (shown above) and the 14K White Gold Round and Baguette Diamond 3 Stone Engagement Ring (shown right) are available in 14K rose gold, 14K yellow gold, 18K gold, or platinum.
