Diamonds 101. The Cutting Edge on the Heart-Cut Engagement Ring
This week our diamond lesson continues with a diamond-cut whose name says it all. A heart is the universal symbol of love—so naturally it’s a popular cut for diamonds, especially in engagement rings or jewelry given at Valentine’s Day. The heart-shaped, or heart-cut diamond is surely the diamond of choice for the romantic bride!
This heart-cut diamond actually begins with a pear-shaped diamond. A skillful diamond cutter will carve out the subtle divot that cleaves the wide, rounded end of the stone into two equally-shaped lobes, forming the shape of a heart. The heart-shaped diamond, in addition to being an attractive and appealing cut, is also a good value—usually pricing considerably lower than a round diamond of comparable weight and clarity.
The Heart-Shaped 0.75 Carat Diamond Solitaire Engagement Set pictured above is crafted of 14K rose gold, but can also be purchased in 14K yellow gold, 14k white gold, 18k gold, and platinum. You also have the option to upgrade the size of your diamond. Purchase as engagement ring alone or as a set.
